M.F.K. Fisher was an American food writer. Over her lifetime she wrote twenty-seven books, including Consider the Oyster, How to Cook a Wolf, The Gastronomical Me, and a translation of Brillat-Savarin's The Physiology of Taste, and she was a founder of the Napa Valley Wine Library. Fisher believed that eating well was just one of the arts of life and explored this in her writing, celebrating life and loneliness, sense and sensibility alongside food subjects like oysters or the scent of orange segments drying on a radiator. W. H. Auden remarked that he did not know of anyone in the United States who wrote better prose, and the New York Times editorial board stated that calling her a food writer was a lot like calling Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart a tunesmith.
